Now a days, you probably wouldn’t blink twice at a woman working in porn. Both women and sexuality have been liberated, to a certain degree, so why be surprised when the two come together to work on and work in adult film? There’s nothing too shocking about a female pornographer. But a feminist pornographer? That’s got to warrant a spit take.
This week, Thought Catalog piqued my interest with just that: an interview with the feminist pornographer, Tristan Taormino. Apart from producing, directing, and staring in her own adult films, Taormino is also the author of seven books, the most recent of which is ‘Secrets of Great G-Spot Orgasms and Female Ejaculation.’
As if that wasn’t enough, Taormino also travels from highschools to colleges across the country, as a sex educator and speaker. And with her erotic experience and education, what teenager wouldn’t want to listen to her? Just read this piece of advice:
We must confront society’s rigid constructions of sex and gender. Arm yourself with accurate sex education. Ignore what’s expected of you. Create relationships based in reality, not fairy tales. Explore your authentic desires, fantasies, and boundaries, and nurture them. Don’t strive to be normal—strive to be you.
It’s this type of thinking that earns Tristan Taormino a Naked Truth Award!
The Naked Truth Award is given to a person or organization that has somehow shown awesome bravery in standing up for truth, justice, health, freedom and/or coolness in our world.
