As some of you may remember, we have already issued a Naked Wreck Alert for Rick Santorum after his vilification of same sex marriage and female contraception. But apparently, our warnings fell on deaf ears, as Santorum continues his crusade against sexual liberation, gender equality and, ultimately, personal freedom.

His new target? Pornography. A new message on the candidate’s website under the ‘family values’ tab makes it quite clear that Santorum plans to declare a War on Pornography:

America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography.  A wealth of research is now available demonstrating that pornography causes profound brain changes in both children and adults, resulting in widespread negative consequences. Addiction to pornography is now common for adults and even for some children. The average age of first exposure to hard-core, Internet pornography is now 11. Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women.  It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.

But where is this ‘wealth of research’ that professedly proves once and for all that porn is a menace to society? LiveScience tried to hunt down the facts in their recent article, “Is Porn Bad For You? Santorum Brings Up Trick Question.” This article revisits the most important studies, statistics and experiments on pornography and its effects on society. The findings? Mixed, but mostly in favor of pornography as a healthy and cathartic medium that, at times, can actually better society and gender equality.

If you’re not exactly swayed by the science,  Kristin Battisa-Fraze, the daughter of a porn distributor, might convince you with the personal touch on porn. No, not that touch…in her Daily Beast Article, Battisa-Fraze writes about her experience being raised by the porn industry in order to disprove Santorum’s misconception that porn leads to debauchery, depravity, and degenerates.

“I am living proof that Santorum’s theory that pornography damages marriage and relationships is just not true…. In many ways the porn industry inspired my parents to raise a daughter like me. I have been happily married for 14 years, I’m a mom, and I have a great career as a marketing professional. I’m proudly a pornographer’s daughter.”

Santorum is welcome to abstain from pornography and express his distaste for the medium–that’s the American way. But when he begins to reference false statistics that vilify porn as the cause of society’s most damaging iniquities–from misogyny, to sex-trafficking and domestic violence–that’s when he becomes a two-time Naked Wreck.

The Naked Wreck Alert  is given to a person or organization that has somehow hindered truth, justice, health, freedom and/or coolness in our world, and is therefore in serious need of therapy, naked or not.
